The ancient Indian game of Aadu-Huli - Goats and Tigers

This a 2-player, asymmetric strategy game where 3 Tigers are pitted against 15 Goats.
The Tigers attempt to eat the Goats and if 6 Goats get eaten, the Tigers win.
The Goats attempt to surround the Tigers so they cannot move and if all 3 Tigers are so surrounded, the Goats win.

The Board:

The board is made up of intersecting lines. The points at which the lines meet, indicated by the colored circles are positions on the board.
The top is the apex of the board and the first horizontal line is significant for the starting position of the game.

Setup and play:

  1. One player chooses to play Tigers and the other, Goats.
  2. The pieces are placed where the lines intersect.
  3. In the beginning, the Tigers are placed on the board - one at the apex and the other two, at any position on the first line.
  4. Then a Goat is placed at any open position. After the Goat is placed, one of the Tigers moves. It can move to an adjacent open position or jump over the Goat to an open position.
  5. When a Tiger jumps over a Goat, it eats the Goat. To jump over a Goat, there must be an adjacent open position on the same line. The Tiger cannot jump over more than one Goat.
  6. Once the Tiger has moved, another Goat is placed at an open position.
  7. Goats can move only after all of them have been placed on the board. Goats can only move to an adjacent open position.
  8. The Tigers attempt to eat the Goats and if six (6) of the fifteen (15) Goats get eaten, the Tigers win. The Goats attempt to surround the Tigers so they cannot move and if all three (3) Tigers are so surrounded, the Goats win.
  9. Moves alternate between the Goats and Tigers in this fashion till either six (6) Goats are killed or the Tigers have no position to move to.
